Meet Ike Akamai, the mysterious artist with a penchant for tiki and exotic themes. Ike’s art is a living tapestry of evocative images that transports the viewer to far–flung tropical paradises.
Inspired by the Cubist and primitive art movements, Ike’s works are a fascinating mix of bold shapes and shades of blues and greens, reflecting the influences of Art Deco, old Exotica record covers and simple tiki art. His artistic journey took him across the Pacific, where he immersed himself in the cultures of Polynesia and Melanesia, particularly Papua New Guinea, New Zealand and Rarotonga.
Ike’s life reads like a suspenseful adventure novel, full of tales of beach quests, encounters with mythical creatures and even a legendary fight with a giant octopus. Amid his escapades, Ike found love on the islands that gave birth to two beautiful children, Awhina and Haukea.
